The Silkyy Heatless Hair Curler may require a few tries to perfect your technique and get your curls to come out exactly as you like them! Tightness, how wet your hair is before starting, and the size of strands you pull when wrapping your hair all have an effect on the end result. Use these guidelines and real-time video tutorial to set yourself up for success!
1. Start with slightly damp hair.
It is best that your hair isn’t fully wet when using the Silkyy Heatless Hair Curler. If starting with freshly washed hair, towel dry it or allow your hair to air dry until it is at least 50% dry. If your hair is already dry, you can lightly dampen it with a spray bottle or run a wet brush through it.
2. Center the Silkyy at the top of your head.
The Silkyy Heatless Hair Curler can be used with or without a clip. If using a clip, secure it in the center of your head. If not using a hair clip (like our model Sarah), secure one side out of the way with a Silkyy scrunchie or elastic. The scrunchie will hold one side of the Curler in place while you wrap the other side.
3. Begin wrapping your hair.
Start with a one-inch section from the front of your head. Smooth your hair out with your fingers to ensure it lays flat and wrap it once over and under the Silkyy Heatless Hair Curler, wrapping away from your face.
4. Add hair and continue wrapping.
Once reached under, grab another 1-inch section and add it to the first piece. Run the new section over the Curler and wrap it back under the Curler again. This process is similar to that of a French twist.
5. Continue repeating the previous step until all hair is wrapped.
Wrap the hair tightly enough to remain close to your head and keep the Silkyy in place. Tighter wrapping will yield tighter, bouncy curls that will last for days and loosen over time! Loose wrapping will result in loose waves.
Once you reach the nape of your neck, grab all the hair that is left and continue wrapping it until you reach the bottom on your hair.
6. Secure the bottom with a Silkyy hair scrunchie!
Sarah likes to bend the ends so they stay above her shoulders, but you could leave the ends of the Curler resting on your shoulders as well! Both ways work.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 on the other side.
Take the scrunchie off of the other side. The hair you wrapped will keep the Silkyy secured while you wrap this side of your hair. If using a clip, you can remove it once your hair is fully wrapped.
8. Allow your hair to FULLY dry around the Silkyy Heatless Hair Curler before taking it out!
The natural silk material will reduce frizz and keep your hair smooth. If your hair is still damp when taking the Silkyy out, your curls may fall or frizz. Drying time will vary based on the length and thickness of your hair!
9. Remove the scrunchies and gently take the Silkyy Heatless Hair Curler out of your hair!
This should be done slowly to minimize tugging and knotting of the curls.
10. Shake your hair and run your fingers through it to break up the curls!
If you find your hair is too full or "poofy", a great trick is to spray or use your hands to run through some leave in conditioner in your hair. Then brush your hair and re-wrap it for an additional 10-15 minutes. This resets the curls and makes a big difference for us!
11. Reveal your beautiful curls!
