SILK vs SATIN
The Silkyy Heatless Hair Curler is made of 100% Mulberry Silk. Silk and satin are easily confused, so it is important to understand your fabrics.
What is Silk?
Silk is made of natural protein fibers. While it may be strange to think that a fabric so beautiful and refined would come from cocoons woven by silk worms, that very fact provides numerous benefits like the rich nutrients and amino acids contained in the fabric and what they do for your hair and skin.
What is satin?
Satin is a blended weave of different materials and not a natural fiber like Silk. Satin weaves can be made from a variety of fiber materials such as nylon, rayon, polyester, and sometimes even used silk fibers. The level of luxury in satin fabrics is determined by the material composition and the fineness in which it was woven. Due to this, it can be hard to know what quality you are getting when purchasing products made with satin.
What is the difference?
While satin offers a luxurious feel for a smaller price tag, Silk maintains its luster for much longer. Many satin products will look and feel luxurious when brand new, but they tend to fade and pile quickly after washing. Silk is also a much stronger fiber, meaning not only will it stay shiny longer - it will last longer in general.
Many brands that offer products like the Silkyy Heatless Hair Curler don’t use 100% Mulberry Silk. It is important to read the product description and ask questions, because although cheaper initially, the durability of Silk makes it a product much worthwhile. We made sure our Silkyy Heatless Hair Curler as well as the Silkyy scrunchies are made of 100% Silk to provide the best quality and value for your money.
Although the two are very comparable fabrics, another advantage to Silk is its naturally hypoallergenic qualities which keeps Silk surfaces clear of things like dust mites and other skin irritants that cause breakouts. This is why many dermatologists recommend Silk over satin.
